Death Notices, Wills and other estate documents
Death Notices are legal documents required upon the death of anyone who leaves property. They were instituted in 1834 and date from then to the present time. They should contain the names of all heirs to the estate, that is children if and parents of the deceased and, if no children, brothers and sisters. Unfortunately not all are properly completed or, indeed, completed by persons with much knowledge of the deceased, but most are extremely valuable as genelogical sources and are the first place to start. Prior to 1916, in the Cape Archives, Wills and Distribution accounts were filed under seperate reference numbers, but from that date onwards all documents relating to the winding up of the estate are contained under the one reference number. The documents in this section which appear as 'Adobe Acrobat Document' are transcripts done by a researcher in the Cape Archives and I cannot vouch for their absolute accuracy (Richard Ball, April 2006) If you are logged in as a current member of eGGSA you may add any documents required to the cart and downloaded them all together in one zip file.
